LABEL, IRU And ITF Sign Cooperation Agreement On Truck Parking Areas

On July 26th 2010, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between LABEL, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) and the International Transport Forum (ITF) to stimulate that truck parking areas (TPAs) offer sufficient levels of security and comfort.

The agreement includes setting criteria for security and service quality levels and publicising LABEL test audits of TPAs. It also outlines the support from the IRU and the ITF to ensure the sustainability of LABEL TPA standards and certification, involving all competent governmental and non-governmental authorities, as well as business partners at national and international levels.

The IRU and the ITF have recently launched TRANSPark, a web-based application to help drivers / operators identify and locate safe parking areas best suited to their needs along their routes. TPA managers are encouraged to enter their TPAs’ location and the services they offer into available online support systems such as, TRANSPark or Truckinform. Truckinform is the information, guidance and reservation ICT platform for all types of truck parking areas and was developed under the EU funded SETPOS project.
