Rich in relevant content, and attracting some 200 politicians, public servants and managers — as both presenters and attendees — and with live interpreting, this turned out to be the European Truck Parking Conference.

This was a full single day event at the Crowne Plaza Brussels City Centre facility.

Opening addresses were by Anne Jensen and Brian Simpson — both members of the European Parliament — and by Johann Friedrich Colsman, member of the cabinet of the European Commissioner for Transport.

Then the conference explored three topics, namely

  1. truck parking SECURITY: addressing the SETPOS inspired best practices, with the new Handbook and its application to the pilot truck parking sites — download the Secured European Truck Parking Best Practice Handbook

  2. INFORMATION: introducing the new pan-European truck parking portal,, and the LABEL project’s work on certification standards and methodologies

  3. CAPACITY: with presentations on initiatives by three European countries — Holland, France and Belgium — and within the new EasyWay project

The conference concluded with a PANEL DISCUSSION, panelled by senior representatives and contributors from media, politics, the European Commission, public authorities, and industry.

A dedicated PRESS CONFERENCE was attended by 11 representatives of the international press.

In essence, this was the SETPOS concluding event and the LABEL kick-off, as well as updates on selected country initiatives and EasyWay.

Anne Jensen, Euro-MP, emphasised that there is a great need and interest throughout Europe for improving truck parking, as was evidenced by the large number of people from all over Europe who attended this conference.

Participants were given a conference folder, brochures, and a USB-stick containing conference material.
